1972-73   Designed and patented the Brand Tensegrity Lighting ballast system - the first practical solid-state, instant automatic start, high-efficiency fluorescent lamp ballast.
1970-73   Berman Osteotome. Designed, developed and prototyped proprietary mobile dental-surgical laboratory. Holds a patent jointly with Dr. Berman for the electronics of the high-speed drill system.

1969   General Laser Corp. Newton, MA. Senior Physicist, Commercial laser development. 1968-69 Raytheon Missile Systems Division, Bedford, MA. Senior Physicist, U.S. Navy Sidewinder Missile design and development program.
1965-68   Block Engineering, Inc., Cambridge, MA.
Senior Physicist and Department head in charge of development, mechanical engineering and production of Michaelson Interferometer-Spectrometer. Responsibilities included department management, optical design, and customer instruction. Designed special mechanical-optical designs that could be used to produce high-resolution, infrared Fourier transform spectra.
   

[Note: Michaelson scanning Interferometers require use of the Fourier transform to produce a useful spectrum. The Cooley-Tukey Fast-Fourier-Transform programs were written for Block Engineering (under contract to DOD) during this period at Bell Labs (N.J.).]

    Assisted basic research and prototyping at Block Associates (the research adjunct of Block Engineering) on ultra-miniature microphones, miniature mechanical videocameras, and microscopic motion sensors for a U.S. intelligence agency.

1963-64   Sylvania Electronics Systems, Inc., Waltham, MA Electronics Engineer, Micro-electronics research and design department. Responsible for designs of unique unijunction transistor circuitry for beacon transmitters for downed Air Force pilots.
